A breath of Fresh air. That’s what Liz Lieu is for the poker world. Born in Ho-Chi-Min City in 1974, Liz moved to America with her parents when she was still a toddler.
She got the know the game of Chinese Poker at the age of 13 and she got hooked on the competitive nature of the game almost immediately. She played in home games and wherever else she could for 5 years, before starting up her own Pai Gow and Texas Holdem home game. An unexpected and rather shocking event prompted her to begin to take poker more seriously and to start viewing it as a steady source of money. Her father – who had worked long hours ever since they moved to the US – suffered a heart attack. Though it wasn’t a fatal one, it was surely enough to get Liz thinking about convincing her parents to retire. For that though, she had to make sure she could make enough money to support the whole family. Turning pro seemed to be just what the doctor ordered for Liz’s cash game. She started playing in LA and in Vegas and soon, her bankroll became large enough so that a move to Las Vegas would be in order.
Her successful cash game run continued in Vegas, where she became a regular at the $80/$160 cash game tables.
Though she doesn’t yet have a WSOP bracelet to her name, Liz cashed in no fewer than 6 WSOP events making her one of the more famous female poker players. The first such money finish came in 2005, when she finished 5th in the $1,500 NL Holdem event, taking home a $168k prize. That edition of the Series proved to be a really successful one for her as she managed to finish in the money in two more events. A few months later, she continued her cashing spree in the WPT’s Festa Al Lago, walking away with money from three events. She’s had a few deep runs in events like the LA Poker Classic, the World Poker Open, the World Poker Finals and the Five Diamond World Poker Classic. She had cashes in various EPT and WPT events too.
Like pretty much all her high stakes poker playing peers, Liz Lieu does a lot of charity work .
Liz is currently a representative of Chilipoker, so if you want to play her, you should sign up to Chilipoker. Though the site no longer offers Chilipoker rakeback it’s still a more than decent choice.
